Whether fluffy curd dumplings, spicy cabbage rolls, or aromatic jollof rice—each of the 23 recipes comes from a salesperson who shares their favorite culinary dishes and the personal stories behind them. The Apropos recipe column is curated by Alexandra Embacher, who has been collecting recipes, cooking them, and profiling the people behind them every month since 2022. “I enjoy immersing myself in the culinary world of street newspaper vendors with each recipe – experiencing their memories, their culture, and their love of cooking and eating,” explains Embacher. “For me, the Apropos cookbook is a collection of all these stories, a culinary stroll through kitchens near and far. Each recipe tells the story of people who have touched me with their stories.”
The book project was made possible by a donation from the Good Council for Redistribution, financed from the assets of millionaire heiress Marlene Engelhorn. “The donation makes it much easier for us to launch projects such as the cookbook than before,” says Apropos editor-in-chief Michaela Gründler.
In addition to classic and international recipes, readers will also find tips for vegan variations, practical kitchen tricks, and even a little cooking quiz in the book. This makes “Apropos: Favorite Recipes!” not only a treat for the palate, but also a gift with social added value—especially in the cold season.
This cookbook tastes twice as good—because it supports people in difficult life situations and at the same time makes you want to cook the recipes. True to the motto: Buy. Cook. Do good.
The Salzburg street newspaper Apropos is produced by professional journalists and sold by around 120 men and women in the province of Salzburg who are homeless, homeless, and/or long-term unemployed. In the “Writing Workshop” section, Apropos sellers have the opportunity to articulate their experiences and concerns independently. APROPOS has received several awards, including the René Marcic Prize for outstanding journalistic achievements.

The venue will be the Grimaldi Forum Monaco, organized as part of a joint initiative between the Principality of Monaco and Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer, which is acting as the exclusive partner.
It is more than a cookbook. Kanaan – Cooking without borders is a manifesto for understanding, compassion, and what good food has always been able to do: bring people together. Every day at the Kanaan restaurant in Berlin, Israeli Oz Ben David and Palestinian Jalil Dabit demonstrate that cuisine speaks a universal language – and that where there is cooking, understanding begins.

Las Vegas is known for its long nights, which makes places that do mornings really well all the more important. Between the Strip and downtown, there are a surprising number of spots where breakfast and coffee are not just an afterthought, but are deliberately celebrated. It’s these places that make all the difference: quiet, high-quality, and offering just the right amount of enjoyment before the day gets going.
