The MICHELIN Guide goes beyond the plate: with the new MICHELIN Keys, a global rating system for exceptional hotels has been created for the first time. From minimalist eco-resorts to historic grand hotels and avant-garde architectural icons, 2,457 establishments worldwide were awarded in 2025, setting new standards for hospitality, design, and sustainable luxury.

A new benchmark for quality and hospitality

The legendary MICHELIN Guide has presented its first global selection of MICHELIN Key Hotels in Paris—a milestone that showcases the crème de la crème of the international hotel industry.

Following regional launches in Europe, Asia, and North America in 2024 and early 2025, the global selection now includes 2,457 hotels in 120 countries that have been awarded one, two, or three MICHELIN Keys.

Hotels are evaluated according to five internationally defined criteria, including design and architecture, service quality, authenticity, comfort, and the overall value of the experience. MICHELIN Key is thus positioning itself as a new, independent standard for exceptional hospitality – comparable to the role that the MICHELIN star has played in gastronomy for decades.

“The MICHELIN Keys offer travelers a reliable compass for unforgettable stays – authentic, inspiring, and exceptional in their quality,” says Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guide.

  • Vitalhotel Alter Meierhof, Glücksburg (DE) – 2 MICHELIN Keys
  • Fairmont Le Montreux Palace, Montreux (CH) – 2 MICHELIN Keys

From Alpine panoramas to avant-garde: global highlights from the new selection

The latest MICHELIN Key Selection shows how multifaceted excellence can be – from minimalist sustainability to visionary luxury.

  • Atlantis The Royal, Dubai (3 MICHELIN Keys) – winner of the MICHELIN Architecture & Design Award 2025; an architectural monument that redefines Dubai's skyline.
  • Bürgenstock Resort, Switzerland – winner of the MICHELIN Wellness Award 2025, where medical regeneration and alpine lifestyle meet.
  • La Fiermontina Ocean, Morocco – Winner of the Local Gateway Award; combining culture, community, and luxury on the Atlantic coast.
  • Burman Hotel, Tallinn – Opening of the Year 2025, a boutique hotel with stylistic sophistication and a lively soul.
  • Ceylon Tea Trails, Sri Lanka – Colonial charm meets sustainable hospitality in the heart of the tea plantations.
  • The Brando, French Polynesia – Three keys for an eco-resort that exemplifies the combination of luxury and environmental awareness.

These awards recognize establishments that harmonize design, service, sustainability, and sensuality – from urban coolness to remote nature retreats.

The significance of MICHELIN Keys – what really sets them apart

MICHELIN Keys are not just a mark of quality, but also of attitude. They stand for a form of hospitality that has an emotional impact and leaves a lasting impression:

  • 1 MICHELIN Key: An outstanding hotel with a distinctive character and personality.
  • 2 MICHELIN Keys: An extraordinary stay, characterized by style, care, and palpable passion.
  • 3 MICHELIN Keys: The absolute premier class – places that create memories and define travel.

All award-winning hotels are available free of charge at guide.michelin.com and in the MICHELIN app. Bookings and personalized travel advice are directly integrated – a step that elegantly combines hospitality and digital experience.

Our conclusion for the future: When hospitality becomes an attitude

With MICHELIN Keys, the MICHELIN Guide is opening a new chapter for the international hotel industry – one that defines quality not by opulence, but by experience and meaning. What the star is to cuisine, the Key will be to hotels: a symbol of authenticity, excellence, and the magic that happens when craftsmanship and heart come together.
